Choosing the Right Car Lifting Kit: A Simple Guide

News 12/01/2024

Alright, let’s talk about this car liftin’ kit thing, ya know? My old man, he used to say, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” but these young’uns, they always tinkerin’ with somethin’. So, what’s the big deal with liftin’ up a car, anyway?

Well, from what I gather, it’s all about makin’ your truck sit higher. You see them big ol’ trucks rollin’ around, lookin’ like they could climb a mountain? That’s what these kits do. They call it a suspension lift kit or somethin’ fancy like that. Sounds complicated to me, but it’s supposed to give you more space between the bottom of your car and the ground. Good for goin’ over rocks and bumps, I guess.

Now, there’s different kinds, mind you. Some are just for looks, they say. Make your truck look tough, like it’s ready to rumble, but they don’t do much else. They call ‘em levelin’ kits or body kits. Cost ya a few hundred bucks, maybe. But if you really wanna go off-roadin’, you need the real deal. Them suspension lift kits, they cost a whole lot more, thousands sometimes! And then you gotta pay someone to put it on, and that ain’t cheap either.

  • Levelin’ Kits and Body Kits: Cheap, mostly for looks, maybe $100-$500.
  • Suspension Lift Kits: Expensive, for real off-roadin’, can be $1,000-$5,000, plus installation costs.

But here’s the thing, nothin’s free, right? You lift that car up, it ain’t gonna handle the same. My grandson, he tried liftin’ his truck, and let me tell ya, that thing was wobbly. He said it was harder to stop too, so you gotta be careful. Makes sense, I guess. You mess with somethin’, it’s bound to change. More accidents happen with them lifted cars, so they say. Gotta be mindful, that’s what I say.

Now, there’s another kind of liftin’, not for drivin’ around but for fixin’ things. They call ’em car lifts or vehicle lifts. Big ol’ things that raise your whole car up in the air, so you can get underneath and work on it. Mechanics use ’em, I seen ’em in the shop down the road. They got those floor jacks too, for liftin’ up just a little bit, if you need to change a tire or somethin’. Handy things, I reckon.

Seems like everybody and their brother is sellin’ these things nowadays. There’s this place down in South Africa, somethin’ called AEI, they got all sorts of car stuff. And I seen this ad for a whatchamacallit… an automatic car jack. Lifts up five tons! Can you believe it? Built-in air compressor and all. These young folks, they think of everything. Guess it makes things easier, but sometimes I think the old ways were better. Less to go wrong, ya know?

So, if you’re thinkin’ about liftin’ your car, you gotta think about what you want it for. Just for looks? Or for really goin’ off-road? And remember, it ain’t just about boltin’ on some parts. It changes how your car drives, and that can be dangerous if you ain’t careful. My old man always said, “Safety first,” and even though he never saw one of these fancy lift kits, I reckon that advice still holds true. Be careful out there, and don’t go gettin’ yourself into trouble.

Anyways, that’s the gist of it, as far as I can tell. Cars and liftin’ and whatnot. Just remember to use your common sense, and don’t be doin’ nothin’ foolish. That’s all I gotta say about that. Now, where’s my tea…?
