Oh, so ya wanna build a lift in Minecraft, eh? Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t too hard once ya get the hang of it! Now, this here lift—some folks call it an elevator, but I reckon lift is just as good—can take ya up and down without all that huffin’ and puffin’. Perfect for when ya built yourself a tall ol’ tower or even just a two-story home.

First things first, ya gotta dig a foundation. Now don’t be skimpy here—make it a good four blocks wide, three blocks long, and dig down about four blocks deep. Ya see, ya need some room for all the bits and bobs that make this thing go up and down. Just imagine the bottom of your elevator right down in that hole, sittin’ pretty.

Now, once that hole’s dug, pick one of them three-block-wide sides and face it. Doesn’t rightly matter which side—whichever feels good to ya. Start in that middle row and place a big ol’ block of obsidian right in the center. Mind ya, don’t put obsidian all over, just in that one middle block of the second row, so there’s some plain floor on either side.

Then, ya gotta widen that hole a bit by removin’ one block all ‘round the edge, leavin’ ya with a nice roomy foundation that’s now five blocks wide and four blocks long. Should be lookin’ like a nice sturdy spot to build on by now.

Gettin’ the lift goin’ with water is a good trick, I’ll tell ya. You’ll need glass blocks for the walls—it’s mighty nice to see what’s goin’ on inside, plus it keeps the water in. Put up four columns of glass around the hole ya just dug. This is what’s gonna keep ya safe from spillin’ out while ya goin’ up or down. Once those walls are up, fill the whole thing with water. Ain’t gotta be any fancy water, just fill it up right to the top.

Here’s where kelp comes in handy. Place that kelp all the way from the bottom to the top, right in the middle of that water. This turns the water into what them smart folks call “source blocks.” Once ya got it all filled, go ahead and break the kelp—it’s done its job.

Now, the fun part! Place a block of soul sand down at the bottom if ya wanna go up. This’ll create bubbles that’ll lift ya right up to the top! Feels just like floatin’. Or, if ya wanna make it a goin’-down kind of lift, replace that soul sand with a magma block. That’ll drag ya right back down to the bottom.

So now ya got yerself a working lift. But wait, there’s a bit more ya can do if ya want it fancier, like addin’ buttons for floors. Ya put an up button and a down button so’s ya can pick where ya wanna go. It ain’t too different from the ones ya see in real life, I reckon. Press the top button to go up and the bottom one to go down, simple as that.

Want to get real fancy? Well, ya can add some doors that open and close when the elevator moves. Now, this ain’t needed, but it sure does look snazzy. Ya can use redstone to rig this up if ya know a thing or two ‘bout it. Set it so’s the door opens only when ya get to a floor. Looks real professional if ya ask me!

Some folks like to have a big ol’ motor attached so ya can power more than one lift on the same shaft. If ya got multiple floors, just set up a few of these elevators in one spot, and ya can connect ‘em all together. Then just hop into one, give it a click, and up ya go!

So that’s the basics, from the ground up, for a Minecraft lift elevator. It’ll get ya up and down like a charm, and it ain’t too hard once ya got it figured out. Go on, give it a try!
