Man Lift Crane Maintenance: Simple Guide to Keep It Running

News 12/19/2024

Well, let’s talk about this man lift crane thing, you know? It ain’t somethin’ fancy, just a big ol’ machine that helps ya lift stuff up high. Like, real high. We used to have to do everything by hand, pullin’ and tuggin’, back breakin’ work, I tell ya.

Now, these cranes, they cost a pretty penny. Not somethin’ you just go buy at the store like a loaf of bread. It’s a big investment, like buyin’ a whole farm, you see? So, if you got one, you gotta take care of it. Can’t just let it sit there and rust, you know?

First thing you gotta do is keep it clean. Yeah, clean. Just like you wash your dishes, gotta wash that crane. Get all the dirt and grime off, ’cause that stuff can mess it up real bad. And then you gotta grease it. Everything needs a little grease now and then, makes it run smooth like butter. If you don’t do this it’ll make noises like my old man did after climbing the stairs, creaking and groaning.

And you gotta check it, too. Every day, if you can. Look at everything, make sure nothin’s broken or loose. Daily maintenance, they call it. Sounds fancy, but it just means lookin’ at stuff and makin’ sure it’s all right. We never had no fancy words for it on the farm, just good sense. You see a loose bolt, you tighten it. You hear a funny noise, you figure out what it is.

  • Check the ropes, make sure they ain’t frayed. A frayed rope is bad news, you don’t want things fallin on your head now do ya?
  • Check the hooks, make sure they ain’t bent. A bent hook ain’t gonna hold nothin’.
  • Check the oil, make sure there’s enough. No oil, no worky.
  • Check the brakes, make sure they work. You don’t wanna be rollin around and smashing into things would ya? That ain’t safe, even though I seen it happen a few times, young Billy just didn’t pay attention and CRASH, broke the whole fence. Good thing his daddy owned the farm or they would have had to kick him out.

And then you gotta have someone look at it real good, like a doctor for cranes, you know? They call it an inspection. Some folks say you gotta do it once a year, but I say more is better. Like, every few months, maybe. Catch the problems before they get big, that’s what I say. It’s like catching a cold early before it becomes the flu. Them inspectors, they know what to look for. They can see things you and I might miss. And they can tell you if somethin’ needs fixin’. It’s better than waitin for it to break then your whole work day is all messed up cause somethin ain’t workin right.

You know, if you don’t take care of your crane, it’s gonna break down. And then you’re in a world of hurt. Fixin’ a crane ain’t cheap, I tell ya. And while it’s broke, you can’t use it. So, you’re losin’ money and time. That’s what my old man would always say “Time is money” and he was a smart fella, went to school you know, even though he didn’t learn to farm till he married Ma. And nobody wants that, right? So, just do the work, keep it clean, keep it greased, keep it checked. It’ll save you a lot of headaches in the long run.

Proper lift equipment maintenance is real important. It ain’t just about keepin’ the crane runnin’. It’s about keepin’ it safe too. You don’t want that thing fallin’ down on somebody, do ya? Heavens no. That would be a disaster. So, take care of your crane, and it’ll take care of you. That’s the way it works. And don’t forget to read those instructions too, even though they are long and sometimes don’t make no sense just do it.

It’s like my old tractor back on the farm. Kept that thing runnin’ for forty years, I did. Just by doin’ the little things, you know? Checkin’ the oil, greasin’ the gears, makin’ sure everything was tight. And that tractor, it never let me down. Same thing with a crane, I reckon. Treat it right, and it’ll do right by you.

And one more thing, you gotta keep them reports, see? The ones from the inspection. They say when you looked at it, what you found, what you fixed. Important stuff, that is. If somethin’ does go wrong, you can show people you did your job, you know? Kept things in good working order. Just like when those city folks tried to say I didn’t keep the fences mended and my cows were in their land. I showed them my records and proved them wrong!

So, that’s all I gotta say about man lift cranes. Just common sense, really. Take care of your stuff, and it’ll last longer. And you’ll be safer too. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper.
