Well, howdy there! You wanna know how to lift a car with a jack, huh? It ain’t rocket science, but you gotta be careful, ya hear? Don’t wanna go squishing yourself like a bug.

First off, safety first, I always say. Park your car on somethin’ flat, real flat. Don’t want that thing rollin’ away on ya while you’re under it. And for goodness sake, put on the parking brake! Now, you gotta find the right spot to put that jack. Your car, it’s got these special places, see? They’re made stronger for liftin’. If you go puttin’ the jack just any old place, you’re gonna mess things up somethin’ fierce. Maybe even poke a hole in the dang floor! Usually, these spots are near the tires, on the frame. Your car’s manual, it’ll tell ya where they are, if you can find that thing. Most folks just toss it in the glove box and forget about it.

Alright, so you got the car parked, brake on, wheels blocked, and you found the right spot. Now it’s time for the jack itself. There’s different kinds, you know. Some are little, like scissors, the kind that come with the car. They work, but they’re a pain in the rear. If you’re gonna be doin’ this a lot, get yourself a good floor jack. It’s got wheels and a long handle, makes life a whole lot easier.

• Scissor jacks: Small and fiddly, but they get the job done in a pinch.
• Floor jacks: Bigger, stronger, and easier to use. Worth the money if you ask me.
• Bottle jacks: These are kinda small too, but they can lift a lot. You mostly see ’em on trucks, though.

So, you got your jack, right? Slide it under that special liftin’ spot. Make sure it’s sittin’ flat and solid. You don’t want it tippin’ over on ya. Now, start pumpin’ that handle. Slow and steady, that’s the ticket. Don’t go jacking it up too fast. If you’re using a scissor jack, you gotta crank it, which is a real bother. That’s why I say, get a floor jack if you can.

Now, here’s the important part. If you’re gonna be gettin’ under that car, you absolutely gotta use jack stands. Don’t you even think about just relyin’ on the jack! Jacks can fail, and if you’re under there when that happens…well, it ain’t gonna be pretty. Lift the car a little bit with the jack, then stick those jack stands under there, next to the jack, on a strong part of the frame. Then, lower the car slowly onto the stands. Make sure those stands are solid and ain’t gonna wobble.

Once the car’s up on the stands, give it a good shake. Make sure it’s stable. If it ain’t movin’, then you’re good to go. Do whatever you gotta do under there, change a tire, fix somethin’, whatever. But always, always keep an eye on those jack stands. Make sure they ain’t movin’ or shiftin’.

When you’re done, you gotta lower the car back down. Same thing as before, slow and steady. Use the jack to lift the car just a tiny bit, enough to take the weight off the stands. Then, pull out those stands carefully. Now, slowly lower the car with the jack, all the way to the ground. Take the jack out from under the car, remove the wheel blocks, release the parking brake and you’re all done! Don’t forget to put everything away so you don’t lose it.

So, that’s how you lift a car with a jack. Just remember, safety first! Don’t be a fool and take shortcuts. This ain’t somethin’ to mess around with. If you ain’t sure about somethin’, ask someone who knows. Better safe than sorry, I always say.
